children's butterfly house hospital

Children’s Butterfly House (CBH) is an organization that houses family members of sick children who are inpatients at any local hospital. A recent study showed that there are a total of 39 million hospital stays in the U.S. year round and 18% of this number accounts for children under the age of 18. With this being said, CBH has recently partnered with a local San Francisco Hospital to create The Children’s Butterfly House Hospital. A facilty that will house patient’s family members in a hotel located in the same building as their children’s Hospital.

CBH was founded as an organization in 2018 by Lisa Smith. Smith
created this organization from her personal life-experience. Smith’s youngest child was very ill, causing her to have to travel around the U.S. to some of the best doctors. Along with having to worry about her child, she also had to plan out these trips to ensure that her and her family had somewhere to stay. Her family quickly ranked up hotel and travel expenses and decided that it was too much on their family for everyone to travel. Having to make this decsion was hard on their family as it meant that they would not be able to be with their child at a time that he or she needed them the most. With this being said, Smith took positive light from this horrible situation and created this organization to help other families that may be in the same situation. CBH makes it so family
members can be all together in one building, and only a step away from their child while providing their family with a place to stay that feels like home.

Site Analysis
2599 El Camino del Mar, San Francisco, CA 94121

Located in San Francisco, The Children’s Butterfly House Hospital becomes secluded from the city life of San Francisco and is surrounded by breathtaking views all around. The building showcases floor to ceiling windows around the whole building, promising beautiful views to every guest. Being located only 30 minutes from San Francisco International Airport, this location is ideal for new patients and family members who are traveling from far locations.
The yellow Dog-face Butterfly is California’s state butterfly. Special and rare, just like our children- this beautiful butterfly is found only in California and resides in Northern California. By having Children’s Butterfly House Hospital located in San Francisco CA. , children and families are surrounded by California’s local nature.

The back of the building will face the scenic foliage of trees in nature. While the front of the building faces the Gulf with breathtaking views of the amazing Golden Gate Bridge. This will give patients and families a chance to step away from reality and take in the beautiful scenic area.

As San Francisco is well known for its strong
earthquakes, Earthquake Resistant Glass, also known as Seismic Glass will be used throughout the building where glass is specified.
All building materials will be sourced locally within the state of California. San Francisco is known to be the Greenest City in the US and has become known as a “smart city”. Smart Cities are known to use technology to be more efficient in the use of resources, resulting in cost and energy savings. The idea of a Smart City Leadership will follow throughout our building ,essentially creating benefits for the environment all around. Man-made features on site will include, fence around property, parking lot, outdoor patio etc. This specific location already has a large enough parking lot and will be available to patients and doctors.
